ATI Radeon X1400 under windows 7: resolution problem

    Hi everyone,

    I' running Windows 7 ultimate 64bits in a Lenovo Thinkpad T60 (T5600-1.83GHz, 3GB RAM, 14.1 in 1400x1050 LCD, 128MB ATI Radeon X1400), and I find a some troubles with my screen resolution.

When using Windows XP, I could install the ATI drivers and have a 1440x1050 resolution. After installing W7, if I install the ATI drivers as Windows Update suggest, I can't reach the maximum resolution allowed by my screen (1440x1050).

I use, so, for the moment, the standard VGA driver adapter, which allows to go to maximum resolution, but I don't have any possibility to manage parameters with catalyst software.

So here is the question : standard adapter with good resolution but no catalyst software, or catalyst software without good resolution.

I tried downloading drivers from everywhere (Lenovo and Ati sites included), and the problem remains.

    Any advice?

    Thanks!

EESS welcome to the Seven Forums. One reason you're having problems getting a driver to install is that there is no Windows 7 driver for any ATI graphics cards made before the HD 2xxx series as ATI has declared all of them legacy and stopped support. There is a legacy Vista driver for Vista,

    ATI Catalyst

that wo0rks with all desktop cards in that situation, but I doubt it will install on the laptop variants of them. Probably find that the one being offered through WU is the same as (or a laptop equivalent) the one linked above only made for laptops. It also won't contain the CCC in it.

With that said does Lenovo have a Vista driver for your particular model? If so and you haven't tried, it, give it a go and it should work. If there is and it won't install, installing using compatibility mode,

    Compatibility Mode

    should get it to install.
