    Hi ppl,
I've just joined this forum after seein a good deal of discussion.

    I've installed Windows7 on my 915G.

Am lookin to add a 512 graphic card. nVIDIA 8400 series by MSI looks lik a good one but I don hav any knowledge how well it could do on Win7.

Can anyone suggest me a decent graphic card for me.

    TIA
    Dinesh

    P.S.
    Pentium 4, 512DDR
    IBM Smallform factor machine.
Hi dinssmart88, welcome to the forum......

IMO, i'd forget the 8400 & go for a HD4670, its dirt cheap.... does not require additional power, & out performs a 9600GT

Thanks for skunksmash for d info :)

I find these links under HD4670:
    R4670-MD512
    R4670-2D512SP
    R4670-2D512/D3
Can u throw a bit light on this. Wt does the MHz value for Core and Memory denote?? and GDDR3/GDDR5..??

Also let me know will they work perfectly on Win7 (concerned about the driver issues).

    Thanks

Unfortunately, being an owner of a laptop with the same chipset, I share your frustration at lack of Aero ... but I have to tell you, there is no app that will completely replace that because there are a lot of features tied to Aero.

If you just want better looking window borders, look through the Customization forum here for themes that will work on Windows Basic. I found a couple of them that work fairly well: one named Basic Black and another named Capriccio.

Before you apply the themes, read the tutorials in the Customization forum about adding an app to allow you to use custom themes.

But you won't be abe to get the active taskbar minimized windows, and you won't be able to get full Aero-peek.

Video driver works but no aero

    Hi,
Finally I was able to get the video driver to work for my motherboard on windows 7 32 bit OS :

    Asus P5GL MX
    Chipset : 82915G/GV/910GL

I spent more that 2 hours searching on google and doing system restarts before the video finally worked. Finally as someone has mentioned here already the driver available on Microsoft Update Catalog works.
Some more details of the exact driver which worked :

search on microsoft update catalog for :
    "intel 82915g gv 910gl"

You will see many drivers after search completes.

The ones to consider are ( both are XP drivers but work on windows 7) :
    1. Driver update for Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family
    and
    2. Graphics Driver Update

The driver update one seems to be 32 bit, and its this one that wasted much of my time, and made me search everywhere else on google.
I also saw the Graphics Update Driver , but since it seemed like 64 bit version , I ignored it at first. But at the end ( of 2 more hours of searching elsewhere) this is the one which worked for me.

Now my CPU is 64 bit though the windows 7 version I installed was 32 bit. I really don't know why the 64 bit version of driver worked for me.

So please try installing both of these one by one and see which one works for you.

Also , the driver available on the intel website does not work.

Instructions to use the driver on microsoft windows catalog:

    1. Download the driver and uncompress it using some software ( winrar for eg ).
    2. right click my comp -> manage-> device manager -> Intel(R) 82915...
    3. right click -> update driver software-> browse for .. -> let me pick.. ->
go to the folder where you have your driver and select it ( you will see many files on windows explorer, but if you go thru the device manager, it will show you the correct one)

    4.Restart
    5. Enjoy

    NOTE : Aero won't work
