Windows 7: BSOD with my new Powercolor 4870.

BSOD with my new Powercolor 4890.

I know it says 4870 as the title, but it isn't it's a 4890.

And Its been a problem I've been facing for awhile now. During any 3d game I get artifacts and a crash to the BSOD screen. I Honestly have no idea what it could be..

Things I've done:

I've tried a TON of drivers from ATI making sure to cleanly remove old drivers each time.

I've bought a new PSU to make sure it wasn't Power needs.

I've completely restarted my computer from scratch.

Things to note:

When I first set my GPU into the computer, the computer started to a black screen apparently my graphics card updated my bios

(I... Don't mean to sound stupid but that is what some techguy with power color told me, I was highly unaware that this was even possible )

I should also mention that the GPU worked perfectly fine under clocked.

It's also not an heat issue.

THis is the replacement card for another card that had "Similar" issues, but it just produced artifacts all the time and then finally quit working. This one is of a different... nature.

Where did you buy this "New" 4870. Artifacts and a crash to the blue screen are signs of overheating. Artifacts are caused by to heavy of a overclock or the card has been overheated and damage was done to the card.

Plese properly fill in you system specs under User CP.

You could try AMD overdrive in the CCC to underclock the card a bit and up the fan speed to see if it helps. And, wow that's literally the EXACT same card I have in my desktop.

I bought the original card (4850) From Newegg but it crashed and I sent it back and got this one from powercolor themselves because they didn't have the one I bought in stock.

Also, I have dropped the clock speeds and it worked fine, but I wanted to know why I needed to do that?

If I drop the clock speeds I have to drop it a good amount...

The sweet spot for the clock speed without bsods:
Original Clock speed: 850
Now:800
Memory: 975
now: 870

I can't really tell how much this is going to effect gameplay, I really don't have a Graphics intensive game installed yet.
