Will Radeon HD 5450 work in PCI-e 1x16 graphics slot?

    Dear All,

Need a quick suggestion before i seal the deal tomorrow.

I intend to buy the Radeon HD 5450. It has PCI-e 2.1 x16 bus interface.

My motherboard model is Foxconn WinFast NF4K8MC. It has PCI-e 1 x16 graphics slot.

My query is- will the graphics card work with this motherboard or not?

    Kindly respond fast plz..

    Thanks in advance,
    Troy.

    I'm using a 5850 in a pci-e 1 x16
I see no reason why it wouldn't, though foxconn is not nearly as high end a board as the one I have.

that is to say the interface is backwards compatible.

thanks for your response mate..so a risk always remains- the card may or may not work...however my vendor has agreed to take the card back in case it won't work with my mobo..worth a try..wat say?
tell me 1 thing plzz..in case the card won't work with my mobo..it will not work in the beginning itself, right? wat i mean is there a chance that it works fine initially and then starts giving problem in the long run??

It's technically supposed to, but I have heard of people having trouble.
It would likely be wise to make sure the motherboard's bios is up to date.

Your power supply will also come into play in this.
Be sure the card you are getting will run with the power supply your system currently uses.

thanks for the pointer bro..i just checked..my SMPS is 300W..and thats wat is needed by Geforce GT 210. Radeon HD 5450 demands 400 Watt or greater power supply..so its a no go. I will now mark the thread as 'solved'. Once again, many thanks for your guidance.

@Maguscreed>> my PSU is 300 Watt and the GT 210 card has a minimum Recommended System Power (W) of 300 W. is it ok to use the card??

    Geforce 210 actually,

    Every PC needs good graphics.

As for the power requirements, the HD 5450 uses less than the G210,

What the card makers recommend is for system total power requirements, with room to spare. Your 300W is probably enough as long as it is of decent quality. Not all power supplies are created equal and there are some 600-700W models out there that aren't as good as a good quality 300-350W unit.
