"Code 12" on laptop GPU; stuck on 16 colours and 800x600 resolution

    Hi all,

Just installed Windows 7 on my laptop, a Lenovo ThinkPad SL 300, dual-booted with GNU/Linux. The laptop came with Windows Vista long ago but I wiped that and have been running just linux for ages, but now I need both OSs available. Everything worked fine under Vista.

Throughout the installation and afterwards I found myself with a resolution of 800x600 and only 16 colours; this was very clearly wrong as things looked pretty weird and I later checked the numbers. After installing I let Windows Update do its thing and then installed the latest drivers for my GPU, an nVidia G 105m, from the nVidia website. But the colours remained broken.

I opened up Device Manager and found my GPU which had a yellow ! next to it, and got the message "This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)". So it looks like Windows is using integrated graphics rather than the GPU?

I found this page on the Lenovo website which has instructions for installing a "monitor file" which says is needed when you use non-pre-installed Windows: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/deta...cID=MIGR-62923

... however when trying to follow the instructions lower down on that page, under the Monitor tab in the Advanced Settings dialog accessed from Screen Resolution, the Properties button was for me greyed out, so I couldn't do what it said.

    What could be wrong?

    Many many thanks.

D'oh. Disabled something I shouldn't have in the BIOS. Sorry to bother y'all.
