    No Windows Aero Supported

I have an older laptop with XP that I plan to install Windows 7 on. I ran the Windows Advisor and the only thing lacking is the Aero Support. I don't use this PC all that much and am not keen on buying a new graphics card. What will it be like without Aero? Is it really bad or just like XP was? Thanks,

It doesn't look too bad and without Aero the laptop will get a slight performance boost.

To get some idea what it will look like choose the Windows Classic Theme on your own computer and see what you think.

Thanks for your input. If I decide to "give it a go", I will let you know how it came out.

I decided to install Win 7 and if it didn't work I could reinstall XP. Putting in Win 7 took care of the booting issues I was having so that is a plus. Without the Aero, it is not bad. You can tell a difference, but since I only use it on a limited basis it is no big deal. The Task Bar kind of looks "washed out" and like Boohbah said there is no Peek. Since my performance increased, I am glad I made the switch.

I have Win 7 Home Basic, which doesn't include the Aero. I would like to try it, but it is nothing but eye candy.

No, you do not get a performance boost! Without Aero the whole UI runs on the CPU all of it. Aero itself runs on the graphics processor.
