Want to add a ATI Radeon 5570 to my ACER Apsire x1420G-U5832..

I just got the Acer Apsire desktop and it has a low quality integrated graphics card. I'm looking to ad an ATI RADEON 5570 or a comparable card to the system but I need to know if it will work with the power supply.

If not can I buy and install a new power supply to the system ?

Also, the computer is fairly small, at 4 inch width, 12 inch height and 1.5 foot depth and I wonder if the card will even fit.

It has at least two PCI express slots, one X1 and one x16.

Anyone think this will work ?

My processor is an AMD ATHALON x4 645 quad core and I have 4 gigs of DDR3 RAM
. Will that be enough memory to run with the ATI card ?

    Thanks for your help people.

    It has been done:

Will this graphics card work on my computer?

"douggoud" is running a Sapphire brand 5570 in his x1420G system.

Make sure to get a low-profile version.

It may be difficult to get a better power supply that fits a small form factor system, but it appears that you wouldn't need to.

I have done this on my Acer Aspire X1420G, increasing performance by a ton!
Thought I would post here, since I did a bunch of research on what could be done, and didn't come across alot of definite answers.

I have upgraded the power supply to an Athena Power 350 watt unit Newegg.com - Athena Power AP-MFATX35 350W Mini ITX / Micro FLEX ATX / ATX12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply for many HP Slimline System Upgrades/Replacement

Graphics card to a Sapphire Radeon HD 5570 Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100293DP Radeon HD 5570 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Low Profile Ready Video Card w/ Eyefinity

Also upgraded memory to 8 gigs using 2 each of Newegg.com - Crucial Ballistix sport 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 Desktop Memory Model BL51264BA1339

Hopefully this helps out anyone looking to upgrade one of these nice, cheap systems acquired at Wal-mart.
Windows 7 score is now 5.9, lowest score is coming from the hard drive.
Runs World of Tanks at 50fps, up from the stock 5fps I was getting!!!

I find your post fascinating. I just purchased a AX1420G-U5832 and an Radeon HD 5450 video card. However, my video card won't install the drivers. the entire pc locks up when loading the manufacturer's drivers on the computer. It works if i only load the core drivers for windows manually, but when I go to video sites like youtube, the entire PC locks up--even the mouse. Happens on a FRESH install of windows 7 pro 64-bit too. Did you run into this problem? My USB devices drop sometimes too... strange.

I'm also curious how you updated to 8gigs? The board specs specify the max is 4gb. The ram you linked to is out of stock but newegg has this one: Newegg.com - AMD Entertainment Edition 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 Desktop Memory Model AE34G1339U2-U too. Will that work if i buy a pair?

Was it necessary for you to update your power supply to get the video card to work? the video card specifications say that the video card has a peak power draw of 19W and draws its power from the mobo. it should have enough to do it without updating the PSU.

Please respond if you can. This is a very niche post and really could use your help on it.

For an extra $30 to #50 bucks spring for a case...mid tower, form factor ATX. Then just move your parts in to new case. With a new GPU you want to make sure you have sufficient cooling for it.

Now to your problem, if you look and AMD's website you'll see that the minimum PSU requirement is a 400 watt. I believe your under-powerd which is causing your issue.
