New Hardware Detected After Updating Video Driver

Just curious, Why ?? A video driver is software. I get a yellow exclimation point in the Windows Performace tab saying I need to run WEI again.

Although an updated driver is software it may improve the graphics performance, which in turn may give you a higher WEI score.

As far as Windows is concerned your hardware has been updated and for that reason will prompt you to update your Windows Experience Index.

The WEI tests the driver just as much as it tests the hardware. So if you change a driver on a major hardware component, the WEI score could change radically, so if you want the "correct" score you have to rerun it after some driver updates.

It does sound strange, but this happens after upgrading the graphics driver on Vista, Windows 7 and also Windows 8. I think that it would be better if it said New Hardware and/or Driver Detected as this would cover both driver and card upgrades.

I'm very concrete so, when it says "hardware" I think new or different card.
Thanks for the responses and explaination.
