My experience of these 2 slots is thererun very hot and dont last very long They won't run hot unless you have really a bad airflow in your case. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Win7 Ultimate SP1 x64 / Windows 8 Pro / Android CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 OC'd 3.08GHz Motherboard Asus Rampage formula LGA775 Memory 8GB DDR2 900Mhz Graphics Card Zotac GTX 460OC 2GB GDDR5/Asus EN9600GT 1GB DDR3 PhyX Sound Card Supreme FX2 Monitor(s) Displays AOC 22' Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Prolink keyboard Mouse Prolink optical mouse PSU Cooler Master GX 650W Cooling Cooler Master V6 + 3X fans Hard Drives 3X500GB hitachi, 2TB internal, 500GB Seagate FreeAgent, 640GB Samsung Internet Speed 1MiB/s Other Info 5.1 System + 2.1 System |

My experience of these 2 slots is thererun very hot and dont last very long i don't know, my 260GTX had 2 PCI-E pins and ran hot, and lasted 3 years this month, i've just got a 560Ti and that requires the same 2 PCI-E pin connectors and uses half power and runs half as hot. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Intel Q6600 @ 2.6Ghz Motherboard Evga NF78-CK-132-A 3-Way SLI Memory 4Gb DDR2 Corsair Dominator @ 800Mhz 5-5-5-15 Graphics Card EVGA 560 GTX SC FTW 1GB Sound Card Realtek HD 7.1 Audio, Plantronics GameCom780 7.1 Headset Monitor(s) Displays Dell S2409W 16:9, HDMi, DVI & VGA Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard Logitech generic keyboard Mouse Razor Lachesis Banshee V2 Blue, 4000DPI PSU Xigmatek 750W Quad sli quad core 80% eff Case Antec 900 Gaming Case Cooling Zalman CNPS9700-NT NVIDIA Tritium Hard Drives Samsung 7200rpm 250Gb SATA

I'd recommend you 550Ti. Though, 460 is a bit higher than 550 but Ti edition is not that bad. I myself currently having 550ti asus, i think its a top notch for such PSU class | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO.LTD OS Windows 7 Ultimate x86 CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600@2.40GHz Motherboard MSI (MS-7345) Memory Transcend 4GB (2x2); DDR-2 (PC2-6400); Speed: 400Mhz Graphics Card Nvidia GeForce 8600GT, 128bits 1024MB Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays LG Flatron W2043T 22" Widescreen Hard Drives Samsung HD501LJ 500GB |

4** series was always "loud and hot"
The need for 2xpci power connectors is just the standard form factor for most cards. Well some newer 5** cards need a 6 and a 4 pin, but consumption is minimal. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Built by badgers!!! My GTX460 is quiet and has an idle temperature of around 42C. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Win7 Ultimate SP1 x64 / Windows 8 Pro / Android CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 OC'd 3.08GHz Motherboard Asus Rampage formula LGA775 Memory 8GB DDR2 900Mhz Graphics Card Zotac GTX 460OC 2GB GDDR5/Asus EN9600GT 1GB DDR3 PhyX Sound Card Supreme FX2 Monitor(s) Displays AOC 22' Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Prolink keyboard Mouse Prolink optical mouse PSU Cooler Master GX 650W Cooling Cooler Master V6 + 3X fans Hard Drives 3X500GB hitachi, 2TB internal, 500GB Seagate FreeAgent, 640GB Samsung Internet Speed 1MiB/s Other Info 5.1 System + 2.1 System |

Lol that's not me talking from experience its just I remember when the 5** range appeared, my favourite magazine kept mentioning how quiet and cool they ran in comparison lol. I've not had an Nvidia card since my 8800gtx! That sounded like a vacuum cleaner lol | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Built by badgers!!!
