Odd (and seemingly unfixable) problem with low screen resolution

Hi all,

I've recently been having lots of trouble with my computer's screen resolution - let me give you a rundown.

So, when downloading some addons for FL Studio, I got a trojan. That trojan was supposedly quarantined and didn't cause any problems (I hadn't yet restarted the computer). It was around this time when I let my young cousin on my computer to play his favorite game, Plants vs. Zombies (which I had just downloaded). Seeing as he was experienced with the game, I left him alone to play; I came back to hearing (from my sister, who was watching him) that he had just started pressing buttons and had somehow caused the computer to shut down. Upon restarting, my screen resolution was terrible. I can't give the exact amount, but it was bad enough that my entire desktop was filled with massive icons (you know, the usual problem).

So I went to my screen resolution settings...which were set to 1024x768, which I thought was normal for this computer (I guess not?). I couldn't raise the resolution level either; the highest is 1024x768 as well. Stumped, I went ahead and updated the drivers for my monitor (Generic Non-PnP Monitor) and the resolution immediately reset itself to the higher

I didn't have any more trouble until this morning; my sister, who had restarted the computer, found it at the same low resolution as before. I set to work upgrading all my drivers, but after 4-5 restarts I'm still at square one.

Here's a list of my drivers:

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD (child of "Display Adapters") - This is the latest version. When I downgrade (or use the drivers I had before the problem, which is one version below the latest) the name changes to "Intel Graphics HD" (if I remember correctly). Here's a screenshot of the properties:



I just rolled this driver back; updating it leaves me with the same problem that I've been having.

Now, for the Generic Non-PnP monitor:



As you might notice, I'm unable to roll back this driver. Attempting to update it leaves me with a Windows error: "This driver is already up to date".

So my question is...what can I do to fix this?

(Edit - I placed this in Hardware/Devices because I don't think the drivers are the main source of the problem. If a moderator or higher level believes it should be in a different category, please move.)

Edit 2 - Now I'm confused. I restarted again, and the display driver is now "Intel HD Graphics" again. Er....
