    Dual Monitor different sizes

    Hello
A month ago i bought a new 27' screen for my 17' laptop. I have searched for a long time and i finally found this forum, which i seem like you have an answer to my problem:
So i have it set up like my laptop in front of me, and then i have this little table thing behind my laptop with my 2nd monitor on it, all plugged with HDMI. I'm mostly using my laptop for gaming. The problem is that i want my laptop monitor to be primary monitor while automatically opening games on my big monitor. The thing is i want all the icons and the taskbar to be on my laptop monitor. So first i just moved them down there and when i unplugged the 2nd monitor it worked fine. But when i plugged it in again, the problem is all the icons and the taskbar is moved up to my 2nd monitor again.
TL;DR: I want my icons and taskbar to stay at the secondary monitor even though it's only secondary when both screens are plugged in

Laptops are configured, by default, to use their own screen as the primary display; perhaps for entirely logical reasons when you think in terms of what they're designed for being used as.

Every time you use the external monitor it will function as your primary monitor, the reason being that has been conceived as a temporary function for the hardware, and nothing more.

You could try some dual monitor software to control this, but I suspect as you're using an HDMi port this could prove futile in truth.

I should have said that i put my external monitor as primary and when i unplugged, laptop went primary and plugged in again, external was primary. But then the icons is moved up to my external monitor even though they were at my laptop monitor before unplugging

As far as what's happening goes I think it's actually what is supposed to occur :)

How you can change that behaviour is another matter.

You could investigate dual monitor software bundles which might help, however most of those I know of are not specifically designed for use with HDMi ports.

So there's no way to let the icons and the taskbar stay on my laptop monitor? Or have games automatically start on my external monitor while having laptop monitor as primary? I once used something called ShiftWindows, but i had to press a button every time to move it over, and it was quite anoying, and also it fudged up with the in game resolution since my screens have different resolutions.
