Windows 7: New Nvidia Geforce GTX 460 1gb Freezing or BSODing on boot

Ubuntu runs fine from disc or from disk(HDD)? If it is running from a cd fine, then sounds like the onboard SATA is corrupted somehow.

Try a few cmos clears consecutively, make sure it is resetting stuff in bios. Some MB want you to take out the battery.
And I hate to say it if killing the MB is eventually what happens, but maybe replace the MB battery.

Next level is to attempt to upgrade the MB bios to clear the configs If that is already upgraded, see if you can find the old one and down grade it, then upgrade it. Or, if it allows you to copy over with the same version, do so. This may correct something that flashing the cmos wont. See if there is something that can boot from usb or cd so you dont have to use the suspected corrupted sata lines.

Is there a setting in bios related to SATA configurations, is there any tinkering that can be done in there?

Other than that, patch the hole with an add in card (still may not fix) or kill the MB. This is one of the computer issues that make me personally scrap a board. Make sure you step back and reflect on all of your troubleshooting. Then when you scrap it be glad you now know when something is dead.

You could just start using live cds and USB drives.

If Ubuntu is booting from HDD and running fine, then maybe your windows cd is corrupted

I'd juat like to thank everyone for all the massive amounts of help and support I got! I really apreciated it but today I drank a glass of man the **** up and went out and bought a new gigabyte 970 a-d3, 8gb of ddr3, an amd six core and some water cooling. Gave my case a good clean out. That shit was dusty and reinstalled my more or less new system. Very happy with myself.

EDIT: Ubuntu runs from disk no problem. Looking into resetting cmos right now then I'll run that memory test

( I think ) I Flashed the CMOS - Nothing seems to have happened, still get the same issues.
Is there any point in running the memory test? I'm beginning to accept that my board is ****ed.
You said the PSU you have now is warranty replacement for one that failed? PSU rarely fail gracefully. They often take something with them.

If your return your system to its original hardware only with the new PSU and you still have the issues, I would say it is probably a bad motherboard.

fwew, glad someone else thinks its the MB. I hate having to tell someone its that. Didn't even think about the connection, but most computers that needed a new psu eventually did have the MB die. Thanks haxcid!
