    Screen Locking up (graphics)

I've been working with windows 7 and I recently reformatted up 7100 x64.

I am noticing a new problem that I didn't experience in build 7000 x64. Basically my the screen locks up but I am still able to use the mouse and do things but the screen doesn't update. For example Im running FL Studio, and I load some module, then the screen freezes. Now I can still play sounds, exit software etc but nothing changes on the screen, its like clicking on a picture and navigating by memory. Eventually, the cursor disappears and I am forced to restart by holding the power button.

As I said, I have did a clean install of 7100 x64 the only other change is that I am using the 171.81 nvidia drivers instead of the older ones.

Some System info, LMK if you need more:

    Update:
I rolled back to .71 still having issues.
Also the cursor doesn't disappear it freezes. and the computer seems freezes up. I have waited it out and things seems to come back slightly. I get brief moments of control back, and the cursor is movable, the computer seems to process some of the key stokes that I performed when it was frozen, (i.e. ctrl alt del, alt tab) and I have brief moments where the cursor works. Eventually the screens go black except for the cursor which is movable. This happens for a while, and eventually I get control back. And things seem to work fine.

This seems to be consistently happening when I am using FL Studio. In fact, I haven't had it happen in any other app. FL studio is by far the most memory intensive sw I have used after reformatting. Its possible that is some sort of thrashing issue?

With these new developments, Im not sure that this is a graphics issue.... feel free to move this if you feel its necessary.

I am getting the exact same problem. Sometimes it will happen when I just browsing the internet with Google Chrome. Most of the time I will have Guild Wars, a video game, running and it will lock, my cursor is still movable and I might have to wait up to 5 minutes and it might come back. I also have a fresh install of Windows 7 build 7100.

First we could help you more if you filled out your system specs (in the lower left hand corner). Until you do we are only guessing. Is it 32bit or 64. Clean install or upgrade, what video card, how much ram, etc.

Sorry about that, I am using the 64 bit version, I have an Nvidia 8800gtx and 3GB of ram. It was a clean install as well.

    Y

Driver updates on the nvidia and the rest of the drivers? check the ram using ramtest. Check device manager (type device manager in search) see if the nvidia is operating correctly. Check event viewer (eventvwr in search) and see if there any errors relation to this problem
