windows 7 with asus f1A75-V hooking up 2 monitors

I am about to bang my head.... I can not for the life of me, figure out why I cannot get my displays to work properly. My onboard GPU (which I'm using) supports my config., which is viewsonic led monitor hooked up with vga, and my samsung tv hdmi out of pc to tv. What I "want" is to have my TV playing something like a movie and my monitor to be used for homework. I can get both images to display on both tv and monitor, but cannot seperate the 2. When I go to extend mode, it all but kills my monitor and makes my TV the main display. (kills as just leaves my screen drop on monitor...but no controls) Its like the 2 are switched around and I cannot change them around. Right clicking desktop, then click screen resolution, there is my display setup. With my tv unpluged, the only and #1 display is my viewsonic. When I plug in the damn samsung tv, it then makes THAT #1 and my monitor #2. I don't see a way of changing that around. Swapping cables is not an option, because I am going to run HDMI out to TV. I have got to be doing something wrong. Please help before I go over the deepend. Thx, DM

Don't worry about the whole monitor #1 and #2 as there is nothing you can do about it as that is controlled by the video card itself, and I don't think I have ever seen it mentioned that it can be changed by software. You may not be able to change which is shown as 1 and 2, but you can change which is the primary display (which doesn't matter which is 1 or 2) in either the Windows or AMD settings.

I assume by this you mean that the wallpaper is still showing on the monitor. If so have you tried moving the mouse or dragging an open window both off the left and right side of the TV to determine which way Windows thinks they are sitting? For example you have the TV (#1) on the right and the monitor (#2) on the left and Windows shows it as the monitor on the right and the TV on the left, just click and drag the one to the other side of the other and now you can drag open windows/apps in the direction you would expect.

I understand the 1 and 2 thing and make no difference...but when it is not working, is what made/makes me think it is the problem.

Yes, I mean wallpaper. I can get the wallpaper to show up on the TV now, and my desktop on my pc monitor, (monitor being primary, but labeled #2) so how do I get a useful workable image or whatever it may be, on the TV with the motionless wallpaper?

I'll call asus this morning again (afte I talked to someone last night for 1 hr, in which they then told me to call microsoft ) and see if I get another person.

I am trying to get VLC movie player to play on that TV. The only thing that happens, is the movie plays on my pc monitor. I tried WMP and that is the same. The resolutions are all correct. I am trying this on the "extended setting", if this helps.

I highly "doubt" this modern, newest of the line m/b gpu (which is radeon HD6550D, on board) is only capable of a single monitor.

Have you actually tried dragging VLC or WMP to the TV from the monitor? Once a program has been dragged to the second monitor, it should open there then next time if you closed it from there.

Also you will not get a taskbar on the second monitor without using a 3rd party app like Ultramon or Display Fusion.

No and I'm sorry, but I don't know how. Like drag the icon of vlc into that monitor in the resolution settings? If not that, I don't see another window on my desktop, (like a dual screen or a pip type thing) being my pc monitor desktop. My pc monitor is set to 1920X1080 said recommended and samsung is recommending 1280X720 and is set. I'm missing the BIG picture here. I need dummies 101 on this. Have messed with this stuff in XP before with a nividia card and as i remember, there was another small picture on my main desktop in which i could drag and drop things into.

Open VLC or any other program on the main display and make sure it isn't full screen, then just click on the top of the open window and drag it to the TV.

Set it to extended mode in the Windows display properties which you have already done,

If it wasn't in extended mode you would either get an exact copy of the desktop (known as clone or duplicate mode), or you would have a blank screen because the second display isn't enabled.
