Windows 7: ATi 2400 Pro AGP, black screen, flickering mouse after login

Windows 7
*FIXED* ATi 2400 Pro AGP, black screen, flickering mouse after login

Hey guys,

I installed x32 windows 7 beta (build 7000 of course) onto my laptop, HP pavilion DV2315nr, worked GREAT, so it was time to put it onto my desktop.

Desktop has a Gigabyte GA-7VT600 Mobo, AMD 3200+ Athlon XP proc, 3gb DDR PC3200 Ram, and an AGP ATi Radeon 2400 Pro 512MB. HP 19" LCD Monitor (w1907)

I installed Windows 7, and after I logged in, the screen goes black and my mouse flickers on and off, I can still move it however. If I press CTRL+ALT+DELETE it brings up the page to select shut down, task mgr, etc. but sometimes that screen stays black too. It looks almost like the refresh rate or something but I cant figure it out. SOMETIMES, if I let it sit for a few mins, the desktop comes up and everything works fine, sometimes it stays, sometimes it goes back to black. I CAN boot into safe mode, and have NO PROBLEMS at all.

While the mouse flickers I hear a high pitched, low decibel whine and its intermittent (from the gfx card like its being overhauled)

heres what Ive tried:

-Updated Mobo Bios (F15, it WAS F8)
-Reinstalled windows (3 times, last time with a new disc)
-Loading with low res graphics (640 x 480, this worked ONCE)
-Installed ATi Win 7 beta Drivers (during one of the times it was working for a min)
-Tried DVI and VGA

All of these with no prevail, its annoying and Id love to get this working on my desktop. So I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions as to further try to fix my problem. Forgot to add, I don't have an extra gfx card to test the system with, my only other card has no heatsink on it whatsoever (its an Nvidia GeForce 5200 LE 256mb AGP) and this is my only desktop to test my ATi card in.
I will be trying to mess around with the startup processes tonight when I get home from work, see if that has anything in it that could cause this, well see.

Thanks in advanced everyone

So I booted into safe mode, started looking for any system startup processes, unchecked anything I thought may help.

Then I checked in Device manager one last time to see what driver windows was loading for my vid card (I already installed the ATi Beta drivers). When I looked, it was still the windows WDDM 1.1 driver!

So I went to update driver, picked the files location manually, it kept telling me windows already has the best driver installed.

So I tried again, except this time I picked the option below where you browse for the file itself, the one where u can choose your exact INF file (I forget all the names), scrolled down, selected my card (there were like 10 - 15 options for my card with the same name, I chose the first one)
Loaded it up, it installed.

I rebooted the PC normally, and it worked! Everything is working in great shape at the moment, few MINOR glitches with gfx but nothing too bad, aero is working too.

Ill see if I can do a writeup on this with pictures to help anyone else in my situation.
