Can't update my drivers (win7/vaio/8400M GT)

    Hiya,

I have a problem with updating my drivers on my Sony Vaio laptop.

I updatet my laptop (sony vaio vgn-ar61m) from vista 32bit to win7 64bit.
Now, I can't find any usable drivers on the sony website or nvidia website.
I've tried to search trough the forums but I can't find a real good solution

The video card i'm using is a GeForce 8400M GT.

I have absolutely no knowledge about drivers so I hope someone can help me by explaining me how I have to fix this step by step.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi.

    Click this >---> http://us.download.nvidia.com/Window...ional-whql.exe

    Download and install the software\driver.

In the attachment i show you how to search and find the graphic software\driver.

You can also use the auto-detect http://www.geforce.com/Drivers

I tried that one before. When I'm installing, an error shows up and says that the driver isn't compitabel with the hardware.

The autosearch function on the website send me forward to the sony vaio website. But at that website, there isn't a good driver because sony doens't support that or something like that.

Download and install the Driver Sweeper.

Uninstall nvidia software\driver,restart in safe mode, run driver sweeper, choose only NVIDIA-Display and clean, restart in normal mode.

Install the new nvidia software\driver, http://us.download.nvidia.com/Window...ional-whql.exe

    Restart.

Nvidia reference drivers (and AMD for that matter) will never install on any Sony laptop as Sony refuses to allow it. In order to use any driver other than whatever Sony may deem as suitable (beyond possibly one update after the driver it shipped with) you have to either use a modded driver or mod the INF (add the DevID) yourself to get it to install. You can find the latest Nvidia driver already modded here,

Drivers | drivers for mobile cards and laptops | laptopvideo2go.com

    which should install no problem.

You can also mod the INF yourself by extracting the Nvidia driver using something like Winrar or 7zip, locating the appropriate INF and adding the DevID for the GPU in your laptop. Much easier to use the pre-modded one.

I tried two different versions, both failed to install. The same error keep showing up.

I just have to extract the files and run the setup right?
