HP DV6 Only Mobile graphics is shown and not ATI Radeon 6490

    Hey guys,
It been a long time since i visited. I recently bought a new laptop from HP. The HP pavillion DV-6. An i7 2.2, 6 Gig of RAM 640 GB HDD BD drive and a ATI RADEON 6490 CARD! I loaded up Crysis 2 and it fired up fine and knew that i had a graphics inside. Intel default can't run Crysis so smoothly.
Then i installed CPU-Z and to my shock i couldn't find my ATI radeon there.

So loaded up GPU-Z to find my card there and was happy.

But in dxdiag i was shocked again to see this

Even the right click on the Catalyst Center on Task bar shows up only Mobile Intel Graphics. And the Fan is running all the time just for NetBeans.
I would be grateful If i can get Radeon working all the time.
I can't even Install the Drivers from the radeon website.
It says that "I have to contact my Hardware manufacturer to update my Drivers'
I would be very happy if i can Install my own Driver

Windows 7 64 Bit Home Premium.
    HP Pavillion DV-6 Core i7

    Thanks,
    Ashok

Doesn't that have dual graphics cards? The ATI Radeon6490 only gets used when needed right? If your game plays OK don't worry about what those programs report.

Laptop manufacturers sometimes use custom device IDs for their graphics controllers, so the AMD generic installer may not recognize your system. You may need to download the drivers from HP. You don't give your precise model, but if it's a Core I7 system, it must have Win7 drivers available at HP.

I have no personal experience with AMD Switchable Graphics:

    AMD Switchable Graphics Technology

but I believe that you should be able to set up the drivers to always use the AMD graphics controller, at the cost of reduced battery charge life if the notebook isn't connected to the mains.

    Thanks for the reply.
Yeah that's what i was happy about too.. But now When my Roomate also purchased the same laptop and his config says Intel HD Graphics and mine says Intel Mobile graphics is what worries me..

    .
Its a DV6t-6100 And there are no promising drivers for it in the HP website. It just asks me to install a software and it will itself detect what to update and things like that.
if i'm fine as such. There are now worries Thanks guys. I was just being paranoid i guess.

"6100" doesn't narrow it down sufficiently.

These drivers may be helpful, even if your exact model is different:

Software & Driver Downloads HP Pavilion dv6-6157ea Entertainment Notebook PC - HP technical support (United Kingdom - English)

    (64 bit;there are also 32 bit drivers.)

There may be a more appropriate web site for your location.
