    New Build Vid Card showing as "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter"

    Hello all,

    I just upgraded my PC yesterday with some killer components. Everything turns on, works proper, etc.... except my Graphics Card (GTX 560ti 448 core edition) is showing as "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter"

    New Parts;
    - ASUS Sabertooth p67 Rev 3
    - Intel i5 2500k
    - 16 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600
    - GTX 560ti 448 core edition

    Thing's i have tried so far;
    1 - Uninstalled old drivers (explained below)
    2 - Downloaded drivers from Nvidia.com, attempted to install and received a message stating the program could not find a compatible card or something like that
    3 - Checked BIOS to make sure my graphics setting was set to "PCIE/PCI"
    4 - Checked Video Card seating and both 6 pin plugs

    Now, just some other facts;
    - The video card is apparently working as i am plugged into it directly via HDMI cable.
    - The HDMI cable is the ONLY cable i am using for display atm
    - I upgraded from;
    - ASUS P5E3 Pro
    - Intel Core 2 Duo E8500
    - 8 GB's DDR3-1333
    - GTX 275
    - The hard drive was one of the part's i didn't change out. I did not do a clean install of Windows 7 due to the massive amount of installed software(and games) i'd have to reinstall if i did.

    This is all i can think about at the moment, but will be watching this thread like a hawk for updates. I will answer any and all questions ASAP!

    Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks for your time
    Chris

    I'm not sure i know what you mean by an HDMI upgrade driver. Did you mean a driver that only upgrades the HDMI functionality? I'm not sure. What i do know is i downloaded the 285.62 driver from Nvidia.com.

    yes see if there is a driver to update the HDMI it might need a update

    Im not tottally sure havn't used Nvidia in Three years since going AMD

    if that doesn't work try DVI to hdmi and see where that gets you

    sounds like you have the HDMI in the VGA switch to DVI the connections look similar

    Not seeing anything, but this is the same driver set as the previous video card i used. The GTX 275, and i was on HDMI with that card also. Don't know if that information makes any difference or not.

    you try switching ports ?

    also you said you have the latest drivers

    also if you have intergrated graphics it needs to be turned off

    device manager says it is working properly too right ?

    you can also try pulling out the card and reseating it in another slot to see if that was a issue

    Haven't tried a different port (HDMI vs DVI) yet, but will do that here in a moment.

    The Sabertooth i have doesn't have integrated video

    No, as stated in the title, Device Manager labels the card a "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter"

    I'll try swapping it out to a seperate PCI-E slot right after trying the different port, and i'll get back to you with any info

    goto the geforce site and let it detect your card for you.

    Well, I changed to the other PCI-E slot, nothing. Changed to DVI connection, nothing. Called Zotac customer support, nothing.

    ...... insert the CD in the box and install drivers from there... Perfection!

    They say in the PC tech field, to always check the stupidest thing first cause it's usually the problem or really close to it. Since most people (Including myself) typically avoid using the install disk due to the outdated software, i never really thought about it till the guy on the phone said i might need an RMA. Figured, well it's worth a shot.. Sure enough it did the trick.

    Just wish my monitor supported HDCP via HDMI... Does it matter if i use a DVI to HDMI adapter to get the HDCP or will doing so reduce the quality im running at right now? I'm running at 1080p 1920x1080
