HDMI Cable Connection Showing Background Only

    Hello-

I just reinstalled Windows7 from recovery discs on my Dell desktop. Sorry, I don't know much about what hardware I am running, but windows7 is a fresh install and everything else works OK. When I plug the HDMI cable from the pc to the tv all I can see is the desktop background with no icons or desktop folders. I can't see any programs either. I do have sound though.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    Bill

Do you have the TV and the monitor connected at the same time?

After the re-install of Windows, you need to install all the latest drivers for all your hardware. In your case DELL, go to DELL's website and go to there driver/downloads page, input your service tag number and then download all the latest drivers. You will need most of your system information so you can get the right downloads. You can use free software like HWiNFO or SIW.

Thats normal if you are running in Extend (dual display) mode and its the secondary monitor. The taskbar and desktop icons are on the primary monitor by default. Press the Windows key and the P key together and select "Projector Only" and everything should switch to the TV. Press them again to switch back to what you want when done.

I have the same issue but when I switch to Duplicate view it makes the TV (#2) the main display, throws in/shares a VGA display (#3) and makes the monitor display (#1) inactive. Sigh....

We recently moved. Before our move our HDMI connection to our LG HDTV was used daily without a hitch. Now all of the sudden it won't work! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

To get the best help you should start a new thread with a more detailed description of your issue.
