What's happening?[GT440]

Hello everyone, i bought about 1 week ago Leadtek GT440 for my pc, after my old 8600gt got trashed. Well i installed all kind of drivers(nvidia.com, leadtek cd, leadtek.com). I spend almost half a day to configure why it didn't work the driver. It worked only in vga mode. I returned it to warranty and it really had problems, the same problems tested on another PC.

Today they called me that didn't got leadtek any more, but they got gigabyte gt440, ok i've gone to take it. Before taking it from shop, the boys tested the video card and it works.

Now, on my PC i'm facing the same problems like before with leadtek card. What the ****? I don't get it. It is installing the driver, but after restart every time it looks like it's not installed.

Please help me. My sistem is:
-Mobo:Asrock 4Core-Dual Sata2( is good to know that it has PCIe x4) my old 8600gt had x16.
-Ram:3GB
-CPU:Intel Pentium D925 3ghz.
-HDD:WD Green Caviar 2TB.

I don't know what to do anymore, is my motherboard to old or what?

It is sort of old. It uses a Via chipset, and has both AGP and PCI-E graphics slots. The PCI-E slot is supposed to be limited to X4 electrically.

In the FAQs for the board, Asrock states that an 8800GT had to be flashed back to an old firmware version to get it to work on the board.

You may be in for a challenge in getting a PCI-E 2.0 card like the GT440 to run. In principle, they are supposed to be backwards compatible, bit your motherboard may be an exception.

Perhaps you can find an older type of graphics card? You could get an AGP card, but I get the feeling that AGP card drivers for Windows 7 aren't as good as PCI-E ones.

I see there's no mention on your power supply. The minimum is a 400 watt psu according to gigabyte's website. Personally I wouldn't run anything less than 500 watts.

Make sure you flash your BIOS to the latest one.

I have a similar motherboard which is Gigabyte GA-81915-ME-C which has both AGP & PCI E 1.0 x16 slot running in x4.

I am using a Zotac GT430 on that mobo & it works flawlessly. It also gives me good bitstreaming support too.

Processor on the board is Intel Pentium 4 521 2.8 Ghz with HT LGA775

BTW the above PC is being used only as an HTPC.

@Bobkn, yes, that is my motherboard, i know it's a bit old, but till now i was very pleased with it :) . I still have hope that it can be done using a bios update.

@bassfisher6522 my power supply has 450w.

@Hariharan i wanted to make a BIOS update from an year ago. It has only p1.50 installed and the last one is p2.20, there are lots of changes from p1 to p2. But, the problems is that on Asrock.com there is a Bios update method available for my motherboard, but only using floppy disks. That's why i didn't updated my motherboard. And i didn't done a Bios update before, it's the first time.

If the update can be done using usb or cd please help me, i don't know how it must be done. Otherwise i need to look for a floppy disk and a floppy disk drive because i don't have one.

I use a DOS bootable USB key drive. It was prepared using method #2 from:

Boot From A USB Flash/Pen/Key Drive

This supposes that you have a USB key drive (I use an old 128MB one), and that your PC can boot from one. (Some can't.) It may take some additional Web research to get this to work under Windows 7 (particulary X64), but it should be possible.

Well, i've upgraded the bios version to 2.20. Still the same problem. Probably i will sell the video card and buy one compatible with my motherboard, a 8800 or 9800.

9800GT is working on 4core-dual with version 2.10 and above.
