Windows 7: Graphics Card to HDTV via HDMI Cable Even Possible?

Just picked up a GTX 550 ti 2GB card and it has a mini HDMI port on it so i used a mini HDMI to HDMI cord to connect to my HDTV and it works. No black borders whatsoever. The only question I have is why went connected vis HDMI the picture is not as vibrant as it is when you connect DVI to VGA? Don't get me wrong, the picture via HDMI is clear and all but just not as vibrant. Actually the different is so significant that I went back reverted back to my DVI to VGA cable unfortunately.
I wanted to hook up via HDMI because I assumed that it would look the same (or perhaps even better) than DVI to VGA. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or not. Does anyone have a opinion on the matter?
Thanks.

Have you tried adjusting your color setting in the Nvidia control panel yet?

I didn't try that. Do you have your monitor hooked up via HDMI? Have you noticed a difference when hooked up that way opposed to DVI-VGA?

I hooked it back up via HDMI and I am playing around with the color options now to see if I can get it to look as good as it does via DVI-VGA.

I don't use DVI/VGA anymore. Its really outdated tech. It will be nearly all but gone in 3 years anyway. I use HDMI or Display port now. It transmits more data and is just easier. Audio+video on one cable is so much cleaner.

Maybe I just have to get used to this new look because I'm so used to DVI/VGA. It does look really clear and crisp but it also looks as if I have placed a anti-fingerprint screen protector on my HDTV though :-)
Like I said, I think I have to just get used to the look.

Actually when I think about it, my display appears to have a matte finish when connected via HDMI oppose to the glossy finish look that I had when connected via DVI/VGA. I love that the display is clearer with the HDMI connection but I do miss the glossy effect that the DVI/VGA did provide. If anyone has any suggestions on how to possibly attain the glossy look via HDMI then I'm all ears.

Update: I played around with some settings in Nvidia Control Panel and got it to look a bit more vibrant. :-)
