Monitor resolution, opinions on new monitor/tv

Recently built a desktop that uses a HD6870 card; a friend donated an old Aquos tv/monitor. Highest resolution available seems to be very low, 1366 x 768 - looks like a laptop resolution? Using the VGA adaptor connection btw.

Also got a PS3 hooked up; currently I use the component cables since the HDMI on that old tv/monitor is apparently from an older version of the standard (I get a "signal not compatible" message if I use the PS3's HDMI output).

As I suspect it's the hardware that's obsolete, I plan to get a new display. I'm interested in the following monitor: Samsung T23A350 23-Inch Class LED HDTV/Monitor - mainly because it says it's also tv/monitor, and I saw both HDMI and Full HD logos on the shop's display unit. I assume this means that display should be able to accommodate higher resolutions as well as allow my PS3 to be connected via HDMI rather than component cables.

Just wondering if anyone else has any experience with this particular model. Also wondering whether my resolution options are limited because of the driver, or maybe because I'm using the VGA connector instead of the HDMI one.

Sorry took me so long to update this, but the store I wanted to get it from hadn't any stock until last week. Price went down too so that was a sweet two birds with one stone for me. Btw using a VGA connector shouldn't matter, it can carry the high resolutions as well as I found out with my new tv/monitor.

Anyway, I'm as pleased as punch with my new unit. Crisp, HDMI, switches easily between the PC input and PS3 on the HDMI at the touch of the source button. The only two minor complaints I have is (1) it's pretty much entirely reliant on the remote control, so expect to have to replace the 2x AAA batteries someday, and (2) the stand is fixed, so the display unit can't swivel or tilt. Perhaps not a big deal, but as I have it mounted slightly above eye level it can get tiring to have to keep looking up at it all the time. Small price though, I've been working with laptops and crappy old monitors for so long the higher resolution it supports blows me away.

This tv/monitor combo gets a definite recommendation from me.

    Edit:
Oops, forgot to mention, my problem with the old display was that it was basically a TV - sure, it took PC input, but it was designed as a TV so it only supported laptop resolution max (not to mention, now that I compare them, text was faintly blurry as well). No such issue with the TA350, it was designed with monitor input in mind so you get the lovely high resolutions your graphics card can output.
