2nd Monitor not detected w/ vga to dvi-d adapter

Hello All,

I'm running a ASUS P8H67-V REV 3.0 mothboard which has a VGA and a DVI-D output. When I connect a second monitor w/ a vga to dvi-d adapter, it does not detect the monitor at all. I've tested the DVI-D port with a dvi to hdmi cable to my TV, at it works as soon as I hook that up. Below is the onboard graphics info. Any help would be much appreciated.

DVI-D is digital only, that is why it isn't being detected. Also the adapter will be VGA to DVI-I, which is for an analogue signal which is required for the VGA adapter to work.

Why do they make a DVI-D to VGA adapter if it won't work? I didn't realize that meant digital only, I just looked at this image: FileVI Connector Types.svg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and picked the one that matched what I had on the mobo. I guess the port won't support VGA at all?

They don't. What they make is a DVI-D to VGA converter, which is required to convert the digital signal to analogue. The DVI-VGA adapters don't, they just pass the analogue signal (when present). The converters are also rather more expensive, with most costing upwards of $200 or more.

Oh but they do, this is the one I just bought from newegg and is currently on my computer: Newegg.com - Rosewill RA-VGA-DVI-D 25pin (24+1) DVI-D male to 15pin VGA female Adapter

Apparently it isn't being sold anymore. How curious.

That still isn't a DVI-D adapter. If fact if you read some of the feedback on it you will find this,

Make sure that the adapter is fully secured to the video card and that it isn't loose. Also, are you using it with the same monitor and make sure that the DVI port that you are using it with is not a DVI-d port. If it is a DVI-d port, then a DVI to VGA adapter will not work for there will be no analog signal for the adapter to detect and pass onto the cable and monitor. Unfortunately most places including that link mislabel it. You want to connect a VGA display to a DVI-D connection you need something like this,
