Windows 7: Video hardware error

I uninstalled Internet Explorer 9 and I'm back using IE8. However, I had to force a shutdown when the message "Preparing to configure Windows. Do not turn off the computer" remained on the screen for nearly half an hour. I'm just started a sfc scan to check that the system files are working properly.

Update: SFC found nothing wrong.

How is the system now responding? Did changing back to IE8 help?

I think the system is working fine at the moment. Internet Explorer 8 seems to run faster than IE9 on my computer.

Alright, see how the system responds for the next few days. Then post back whether the thread is solved or not. Best of luck!

I haven't made any changes. I did a sfc scan and the first run found no integrity violations.

That's good news. Explorer crashes usually occur due to data/Windows corruption or an application/service conflict. Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

I did a McAfee Security Centre scan on 28th April on 21:00 and didn't use the computer again until today. I think there may have been a conflict between McAfee and Windows that caused the windows explorer error. The computer seems to be running fine now, though.
