NVIDIA Version 186.47 has stopped working

So my computer will randomly freeze and stutter/pop. Sometimes, it will recover and the error message "Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 186.47 stopped responding and has successfully recovered." Any ideas?

Personally, I would update to a later driver. They are at 296.10 currently.
I have been using 270.61 for months with no issues.

Tried that. It said it was for 64 bit OS and I was on 32. I definitely have 64. Had to use system restore.

That would b because Sony doesn't like to let you use any driver but the one(s) you get from them, regardless of whether there has been an update from the device manufacturer or not. And no Sony doesn't write the drivers at all, what they do is use a custom bios/firmware that uses a device ID that isn't present in the manufacturer's drivers. Other than that there is nothing special about what is in a Sony laptop over one from any other manufacturer.

Now with that all said you can try the one from here,

Drivers | drivers for mobile cards and laptops | laptopvideo2go.com

that has been pre-modded and should have the necessary device ID in it, allowing it to install. I wouldn't go with that new 300 series driver, but the one before it (296.16) and see how it goes.
