Dell Inspiron resolution problem after updating NVIDIA

The first time I wanted to update NVIDIA I had version 267 and an update to version 296.10 was available. My graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M, the laptop being Inspiron 17R N7110 along with the Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit operating system.

The first time I done the update, the laptop crashed with a blue screen several times after the necessary restart, so I started Windows in safe mode and rolled back the update.

After Windows started sucessfully, I tried to update again, this time doing a clean update, meaning that I removed the previous version. The update was sucessfull, but my maximum resolution recognised is 1280x720, while in the previous version it was 1600x900.

I tried using the drivers proposed by Dell, but they just had some NVIDIA updates to 267 and 285.

Hi Stely, Sometimes it is not always best to get the latest update, Dell's graphic drivers are tuned to suit their needs , so wherever possible use the laptop manfs drivers ,Install the latest drivers from Dells site you should be good to go with those

^ So is that the only solution I have?
The latest NVIDIA update/s contain many performance increases for the most games I currently play. But if that is the only solution, I'll revert to the 285 update proposed by Dell.

Solved it! It was just a matter of settings.

Not all TFT screens can handle any resolution , look in the manual for the correct resolution.
    (800x600 or 1024 x 768 , ... )
When you connect the projector (or a spare monitor) you can try several settings ...
When you boot up in Safe mode the resolution will be 640x480 (the old VGA standard).
