GeForce GTS 240 update install failure

Trying to update the driver. Windows listed the update first, but that update failed. The other Windows 7 updates were successful. I downloaded the driver from the nVidia site, and that failed, too. First I tried a standard update. Then I tried a custom update/clean install, and that failed. I tried deleting the nVidia folder first, and the update failed again. How can I perform a successful update? Thanks.

    My suggestions would be to:
    1. Uninstall all NVIDIA software
    2. Download and run the System Updates Readiness Tool (SURT)
    3. Install any outstanding Windows updates
    4. Install nVidia graphics drivers
Download: System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [February 2012] - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details

If nVidia's driver version 296.10 fails again try an earlier one.

OK, seavixen32, I'll try your suggestion. If 296.10 fails again and I need to go back to 285.62, can I do that by a) system restore with a restore point, or b) drilling down in the nVidia folder to 285.62's setup.exe file? Or either?

    Thanks.

Unless you've already uninstalled 296.10, you should be able to roll back to 285.62 in device manager.

Failing that, you can download an older driver and save it, uninstall 296.10, and then install the older one.
