Radeon HD 7470 GPU: How do I 'tweak' colour, contrast etc.?

Hi. I have a new ASUS laptop (Home Premium x64) with a Radeon 7470M GPU. The monitor looks too bright however and lacks depth of colour at the present setting. It's a long time since I have used an ATI card (I am used to nVidia and the nVidia Control Panel) and would appreciate some help...

When I right-click the desktop, there is no option relating to an ATI Control Panel (or whatever). I have downloaded the driver package "12-4_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc" and installed it, but still nothing in the context menu. Can't find a graphics control utility anywhere.

Could anyone please help with steps I should take to access colour correction etc. for this GPU?

    Many thanks,

    Martin

when you install the driver you should have a catalyst control center. Read about it here. AMD Catalyst - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi. Thanks. I agree with you, I should. I downloaded the drivers from here:

    ATI Radeon

and ran the file 12-4_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe ... but I don't see the Catalyst Control Center anywhere. It's certainly not on the right-click context menu. I take it this IS the right driver for the HD 7470M..

This is very odd - I have spent pretty much all afternoon trying to sort this. I first uninstalled the display drivers and ran setup again, first with the downloaded drivers and then I tried the drivers I had originally installed (from the CD-ROM that came with the laptop). Still nothing. By this time my Aero score was down to 1.0, so something was very wrong. Tried the whole thing again - without uninstalling first (no joy) then yet again after uninstalling.. Hours wasted.

Finally I had an nth. attempt at installing from the CD-ROM again, and suddenly the monitor looked crisp and - lo and behold - I have the Catalyst Control Center option in the context menu. No idea why it took so many attempts to get it installed (and even better, get my desktop looking as sharp as it should).

Made a System Restore point and will make an image of my C drive as soon as I have things set up a bit further. What a lot of work a new laptop is (pity I dropped my old one - a Dell XPS M1730 - last week!).

Well, the notebook is an Asus X44H (onto which I installed Win7 x64).

The M suffix on the driver number indicates "mobile",
ie.they're specially designed for use in laptops, etc..

I'd be inclined to get the driver updates direct from the ASUS support site,
as laptop manufacturers often run specific drivers for their products:
    ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Search

looks like you've got the ASUS X44Hr or X44Hy model,
as the standard version X44H has Intel onboard graphics..

Hi.. I was using the drivers CD-ROM that came with the laptop, so there won't be a problem there - yes, I know the 'M' is for mobile, but ATI sites from which I got other drivers indicated that the ones I downloaded were for all cards, mobile or not... I still don't know why it took so many tries to get things right.. I downloaded drivers from the ASUS site too (same as you indicate).

The laptop is an X44H .. it has a Radeon HD 7470M sticker on it, next to the Intel sticker

I have made a drive image of the partition, now things are OK, just in case...
