    Some games freezing on laptop

    Hello
I am having a strange issue with my laptop/windows.
WoW and recently TF2 have started freezing (sound freezes as well). Sometimes the computer freezes completely and sometimes the game closes but it continues to appear in task manager. I can't close it using "end task" and when I try to restart my computer/switch it off it does not switch of completely and I have to hold the button.
I am having trouble understanding why this happens. Here are some conclusions I have come to:
-I am using a cooling pad and my computer is completely cold, the fan isn't running at full speed so it shouldn't be from overheating.
    -I have latest drivers
-I have no extra program running while playing
    -Only WoW and TF2 crash

I managed to "fix" wow by playing it in DX8 and now it crashes very rarely. TF2 crashes after 10-15 minutes of play then I restart and continue playing without a problem.

I would greatly appreciate any help because I have no idea what can this be cause by
    Thanks

How long has it been since you have done any upkeep on the computer? When was the last time you installed a fresh version of windows? How long have you had the computer? It seems like it could be a driver issue.. The hard drive may be bad where that information is being stored? Im not to sure.. some more information would be great.

I think that you should uninstall steam as well as TF2 and reinstall them. If you have already tried that let me know and ill see whatelse i can find out.

Note: You should uninstall Half-life 2 if you have it as a steam game as well.

Yes I have HL2 and other steam games. I will do that, but may I ask how will this help, because as I have said it's not only tf2.

    Thanks

It pretty much tells you what the issue is right there. Video Hardware. Is your videocard onboard?

Note: The first error that you posted was to the fact that HL had stopped responding or working correctly.. I think that it could be due in large part to the fact that the second error report you posted was pointing to the fact of the Video Hardware Error. If your Video hardware isnt responding or working correctly that could be the reason why the game or games continue to crash? If your videocard isnt onboard please list it for me. Have you tried running the game in any diffrent video settings to see if the game still crashes? Like OpenGL vs DX ect..? Lemme know

Drivers are up to date, I am playing WoW in OpenGL (my mistake it's not dx8) and it crashes extremely rarely as opposed to frequent crashing with normal settings. I will try playing TF2 in OpenGL as well.

Also as I said D3 isn't crashing (or hasn't crashed yet...). I may try some other games as well. I am also using 3D application like 3DS Max and it hasn't crashed there.

Did you remove and reinstall the two games and the steam client? What kind of hard drive do you have? Specs? I dont know if this has anything to do with it.. and even if it applies but when I first got my computer it came with a HD that had bad sectors on it and I would get a blue screen while playing games from time to time and kinda give the same issues that your speaking to. Since D3 isnt giving you any issues I would assume that you installed it day of release so it would be stored on a diffrent part of the HD just a thought.. Though im unsure.

Did you install WOW and Steam as some of the first applications when you got your computer? Do you have a list of your computer specs?

I think I might know why this happens. I used "diskmgmt" to get some free space from one of my drive on windows, so that I can install linux. It may have scrambled things up. Will it help if I delete the Linux partition and add it back to the old partitions or will a game reinstall help as well (I will try with a game reinstall nevertheless).

Im not sure if deleting the Linux partition is going to do anything for you, if the data is bad its bad.. You should just uninstall Steam/HL2/TF2 an then redownload and install the games. It might fix the issue for you. For the record you can boot Linux from a USB Flash drive ;] I donno why in the world you would make a partition ;] Let me know what comes from that.
