Windows 7 wont start after 8800GT

    Hi

I built a new computer, and all was going well... probably too well!!!

    The specs are:-

    E8400 45W Intel Cpu
    8 GB Corsair XMS RAM
    400W OCZ PSU
    Asus p5q-EM mobo
    Nvidia 8800GT

I built it on Windows 7 64 RC.

It all worked fine, until I plugged in the Nvidia card.

It posted first time fine. So I went and downloaded the Nvidia drivers and then it would not post. I got to Windows is starting and then it seems to hang. I can see the logo, and then the HD light stays on.

So, I thought I would reinstall Window 7 64. Oops! I can no longer install windows 7. I deleted the hard drive, and ran the install app. Runs fine and then when it reboots the same issue.... gets to Windows is starting and then hangs.

What could be causing the problem? I suspect it is the video card - but I do not know what aspect. Could it be voltage? So, infuriated I went to bed....

When I get home tonight, I will remove the card and reinstall windows 7 and try again - unless anyone can suggest something else?

Hi Elliot, welcome to the forums.

You may want to try my 'Device Manager - Access during Windows 7 install' tutorial. Just click the link on my signiture below

I would use it to disable your GFX card & Windows should boot with Standard VGA, so you can download other drivers

    Hope it helps :)

Nope it can't. The Op's system specs are the cause of his problems. I think I might unplug all the hdd's except one and also reduce to 4GB Ram and try again. I might also try to set up the memory, timings and voltages in bios.

400 watt psu's aren't the best idea these days. I have a 450 watt on my old P4 system which is stripped down.

Ahhh ... I did wonder if 400W would be enough.

Just reinstalled, so will try removing the other disks.

Other thing I noticed, is I went and installed 7100 - not 7600.

    All good....

Think it may have been the bottle of wine last night I had miss aligned a usb cable!

    Running pretty sweet !

Are the drivers being supplied by Microsoft any good?

Not wanting to run OT, but my SATA performance is slow - 45 MB/S.

Also the site looks great in safari ;-) I can see everything. Must be my work IE8.
