Catalyst Control Center shows second video card as 'Disabled Adapter'

Under hardware in CCC
Primary adapter: AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series
Disabled adapter: AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series

Drivers are up to date.

I installed the 7800 as a replacement for an older (second) graphics card.
I hooked them together using a Crossfire bridge.
Still, the device remains disabled. I checked in Device Manager and it says that both units are enabled.

Also, there was a related downloads on the website called 'GVFLASH_GV-R785OC-2GD.exe'
I think it's called a BIOS Flash. I clicked start flash and then clicked on my second card without changing any settings or saving/accepting any changes. My screen went a little dysfunctional but I restarted in safe mode, disabled the second card and restarted. Then I turned the second card back on. Everything is working normally since then. Could my system have sustained any damage from this mishap?

Nope, i wouldn't think so.

You could always stress test your system just to be sure, using tools like IntelBurnTest for your CPU, Furmark for your graphics card and Memtest86 for your RAM sticks.

CPU - Stress Test Using IntelBurnTest

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

EDIT:- Although Windows 7 supports the installation of 2 or more discrete graphics cards of similar or different brands, why would you want to crossfire those two (6900 and 7800 series) cards in the 1st place? CrossfireX wouldn't work with different generations of cards AFAIK.

They don't,

Remove the bridge and the second card will likely work.

Thanks for the responses.
Ok, mere ignorance on my part. I can either hook up the 7800 or the 6900 to the monitor via DVI cable. The unconnected one will always be displayed in CCC as a 'disabled driver'. I still fail to see how they can work simultaneously for the same monitor. I'm trying to boost the performance by having them work together. If that proves to be impossible due to compatibility error, then I would like to utilize each of them in some way (perhaps assigning one to another monitor?).
I would appreciate recommendations.
