Windows 7: Compaq 6720s - Intel GMA965 Graphics Issues

Compaq 6720s - Intel GMA965 Graphics Issues

I have a Compaq 6720s with an upgraded CPU. I changed the Celeron 540 to a Core 2 Duo T7700 2.4GHz. Unfortunately, every couple of boots, the Graphics driver fails and will sometimes BSOD. The screen appears with lines, and flashes.

I can, however, tell that this issue is not hardware-based because I use the Laptop in Ubuntu 11.04 and Mac OS X Snow Leopard, with full graphics support without fail.

When the Laptop successfully boots, I can use it with no problem. I can play games without any graphical glitches. However, if I put the Laptop into Sleep Mode, the glitches return.

I have tried installing the latest drivers from Intel, to no avail. Sometimes the Laptop will not boot to Windows altogether, in which case I must boot into Safe Mode and uninstall the Graphics Driver.

OT: Does anybody know what a DDD Lid Board Cable if for exactly? I have a feeling it's for detecting whether the Laptop has been shut or not, but I am unsure.
