One of the two monitors setup randomly goes blank/dark

I am using the system spec as shown in the signature. Both monitors are connected to a single ATI 6870HD. The Dell U2311H is connected to the card via minidisplay-display port while the LG M227WD is connected via the DVI cable. The problematic monitor is the monitor over the display port (Dell). The monitor goes black randomly, sometimes during I play games. Sometimes it goes black more than few seconds, and I get a message on the screen saying power down as there is no reception from the display port.

I have updated the latest drivers, but still this problem persists. Any idea how to solve it?

    Hi mystvearn,

My name is Ravi and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell.

I see that you are facing issues with your display. This might be because of the issue with the monitor or with the video card of your system. To isolate the issue I would request you to disconnect the VGA cable from the Dell monitor and leave it as it is. This will bring up the diagnostic screen of the monitor. Leave the monitor as it is for some time and check if it flickers.

If the Monitor flickers even in the diagnostics then the monitor has gone bad

If it doesn’t flicker then it is an issue with video card of the desktop.

    Let us know the progress

I changed the mini dvi on the graphics card, then it was still flickering so I tighten the joints. Seems all well now. I think it was a case of loose joints.
