Selecting the graphics card on my laptop

I have a HP dv6 laptop and when I extended to an external monitor the picture was terrible. I find that it's not using it's Radeon HD 6770M card as output. It shows in the Device Manager ok, but the desktop options are for the Intel card.
How do I activate the Radeon card for output?

I tried to install Catalytic Converter but it won't download due to incompatable hardware/software, version of graphics adapter not supported, contact manufacturer.
I've run the driver detect utility on the HP website and it thinks my graphics driver is up to date.

OK, I've got Catalyst Control Centre installed, (my incompatability problem apparently a known issue with this model), but I still haven't solved my output problem.
In Catalyst Control>Switchable Graphics, when I set a program to use Performance mode, (presumably the Radeon), the Radeon doesn't show up in the program as an output option, only Intel.

In case anybody else has this problem, in BIOS I changed the Switchable Graphics from Dynamic to Fixed and now the 6770M shows up in the settings accessed by right clicking on the desktop.
