AMD Radeon HD 5800 outputs to six LCDs on one card

AMD at a press conference today demonstrated one of the core features of its upcoming Radeon HD 5800 series graphics chipset. Nicknamed Eyefinity, the ATI-branded technology gives a single video card up to six DisplayPort outputs running at their full resolution. It can also merge these into a single picture and create a live image as large as 8192x8192 once technology allows this; current technology would still allow six 2560x1600 displays that could produce a typical resolution of 7680x3200.

Trying to build up a little more anticipation before it finally takes the wraps off its next generation of Radeon HD 5800 series of graphics cards, the Sunnyvale, California-based graphics chip maker has recently demonstrated a new technology that will be supported by the aforementioned series of GPUs, the Radeon HD 5800 series. Dubbed ATI Eyefinity, the new solution is said to provide users with a new visual experience on their computer systems, by implementing a new, multi-display technology that will be made available on the upcoming line of DirectX-capable ATI Radeon GPU Family.

Oh yea!! Six monitors powered by one card!! A flight sim's dream setup. You get front, right, left, overhead, a separate monitor for gauges, and a sixth for ... hmmm ...

Now how are you going to get 6 digital cables plugged in to one card? Not using the conventional cable. In a picture I saw 6 square plugs and cable adapters to the standard monitor cable. Need more info ...

I wonder if this will bring down the price on the Matrox TrippleHead2Go?

I hope so, I'm planning on getting one so I can use SLI with my soon-to-be three monitors.
