Lower resolutions don't fit screen properly

When i am playing a fullscreen game that i cant run at 1920x1080p (my native screen resolution) I turn it to 1280x720p but it makes the picture too wide and really big annoying black borders at the top and bottom. And by "too wide' i mean most of the gui is forced off the screen. I want to know how i can make it fill the screen. I assume that this is even possible because my console makes the picture fit the screen( on the same moniter) at lower resolutions such as 1280x720p. I'd appreciate any help!

I'm not into computer games. Maybe someone with experience will chime in. But I know some programs take the screen res when they install and assume that's what you'll be running at. If you change the res later the apps don't always look right. You might try installing again but first setting the screen res to 720P.

I'm pretty certain that it has nothing to do with the game/s, and i have never installed a program that asked for the screen resolution.

It doesn't "ask you" for the screen resolution. There are Windows functions programs call to get the screen resolution, work area, number of monitors etc..

So, since you already know how to proceed I won't bore you with further replies.

What's the name of the game? Why can't you run at 1920X1080P ? Is it because crashes occur or because the resolution setting isnt available through Video options on the game? Also is this with all your games or only some.
