Windows 7 Not Detecting PCI Slots after Format - Previous thread about this problem, Bare Foot Kid suggested I made a new thread in here and linked you guys back to it.

Hey guys,

I'm having major problems with my PC at the moment. It was all working well but it was due for a clean and I had all the files I wanted off the Harddrive so I put in the Windows 7 CD and rebooted the PC.

I changed the BIOS so the CD/DVD drive was 1st priority and let it reboot itself. The installation went smooth. I initially had 2 partitions on the Harddrive, I deleted them both and created 2 new partitions and installed Windows onto the smaller one. Everything seemed fine but when I got into Windows I noticed I couldn't set my resolution to the normal dimensions like I always could after a format.

I checked Device Manager and under the Display Adapters and Sound Controllers menus there is no sign of my HD4890 and Xtreme Music. I know the HD4890 is working at least because I have the monitor plugged into it and it works but Windows doesn't detect the card at all and is running off the onboard because it's the only choice it has.

I tried installing drivers for the motherboard, graphics card and sound card but it didn't fix the problem. I also flashed my BIOS with the latest BIOS update from the Gigabyte website. I've tried formatting again 3 times which made no difference. I've tried removing both cards from the PC and booting it up, turning it off, replacing the cards and booting it up, but Windows still didn't detect either of them.

I'm all out of ideas and there isn't anything else I can try that I've come across on Google after the hours of searching.

BFK had me run diskpart and do a clean all on my harddrive I was installing Windows 7 Ultimate x64 to and it didn't fix my problem either, hoping you guys have some more ideas.

How long ago did you do the clean install?

As for me, this is why I don't do partitions during a clean install. If I partition at all it's after the clean install, after all the basic hardware/add-on hardware drivers are installed, after all MS updates are installed...then and only then will I do any partitioning. This just something I do and it works for me.

My advice would be to do a clean install, removing all other partitions and just install on a single clean hard drive. Then install all drivers then install all MS updates and see if issue is still there.

Worth a try, I'll just use diskpart again and do the 'clean' not 'clean all' and then I'll do as you said. I'll get back to you.

I tried what you suggested...

Diskpart > Clean
Created 1 Drive
Installed Windows
Updated Mobo Drivers
Updated Video Card Drivers

I noticed when Windows started up and I checked dxdiag that both the video card and sound card were still not showing. I installed the Motherboard drivers and then started installing the Video card drivers but in the Catalyst Suite install I noticed it wasn't installing the driver or CCC because the computer isn't seeing it either so the installer doesn't think I need the drivers.

Could this come down to a faulty mobo that has some how stuffed up when I've formatted the Harddrive? Or could I need a new harddrive?

Bump, I'm pretty desperate to know if the Harddrive is the problem here because I've been wanting to get a better one.
I've searched through Google for hours trying different phrases and everything and I've tried so many different ways at fixing this, with no luck..

What brand and type of hard drive is it? Check with the hard drive manufacturer and run the diagnostic utility for any issues. The only other option that is that the mobo PCI controller or the slot itself is corruupted or has gone bad.

Have you installed the chip set driver for your mobo; generally this has the driver for the PCI slots.

Yes I've installed the drivers and the BIOS is flashed to the latest version.
The cards worked perfectly fine before I did the format, could a format cause the Mobo to stuff up?

Makes no sense how many people have had this problem but there's no solution anywhere.. Driving me crazy!!!

Can someone tell me what would be causing this? By all the suggestions of wiping the harddrive, I'm thinking maybe it?
Or the motherboard? Please help.
