ATI RADEON 9600Series Crashes as I install Catalyst CC and Latest Driv

Hi, I'll get straight to it, My computer was running its stock WDDM 8.12 version of my driver but the latest is 10.2 so I downloaded it and as soon as I installed it my screen became all pixelated not with small but large boxes, and my cursor also became a box. The boxes we're flashing pink and red lights. I had to go back into safe mode to get it back to normal. What is going on? Its official driver for Windows 7.
P.S I have 3.00Ghz Computer 1.3GB RAM DDR2 And ATI Radeon 9550 but computer reads it as 9600 series.

The latest driver for your card is the v10.2 VISTA driver. Are you sure that was the one you downloaded? There is no actual Windows 7 driver for your card as AMD stopped supporting it with new drivers years ago.

I had a similar problem some time back on an old XP-era PC I was trying to upgrade to Win7, and found that what worked was only installing the ATI drivers, not trying to install Catalyst Control Center. IF you remove all the ATI stuff and reinstall using only the video drivers, it might work. I know that CCC did NOT work, and was unable to get it to work.
