    Matrox P690 PCIex16

    Hi,

I have a problem installing the driver for "Matrox P690 PCIex16" on a Win7 Enterprise (august definitive version) 64bit.
The Windows Update does not offer the driver for it.
I have downloaded the Vista64bit driver from the matrox web page but at installation time I get an error message.

I have already tried to install it as administrator and in Vista (and Vista SP2) compatibility mode (by setting the setup.exe with those options): no way.

Any idea on how to get it work?

I am "sure" that if I would manage to trick it, it would work and I can not wait that matrox brings the driver for it : I have a resolution of 800x600 for a 24" widescreen monitor!

Are you able to extract the installer? If so, dump it to a folder and have the device manager manually install it by pointing to the .inf file in the folder.

I have already tried it it does not work either!

First I have unpacked the driver (works) and tried to let the installer do it's job.
I have got the error I have told you.

Then I went in the (I am translating from german)
device manager --> graphic card --> properties --> driver update --> the driver search on the HD --> I have the path to the directory where the driver is (I can not choose the inf, I can just specify the directory). --> check the subdirectory option.

    I get something like

A driver for the device has been found but in the installation an error has occurred.

The chosen driver is not compatible with this windows version.

    What should I do now?

    I have told you:

"I have already tried to install it as administrator and in Vista (and Vista SP2) compatibility mode (by setting the setup.exe with those options): no way."

I have already done it (it is the first thing I hve tried): NO WAY!
p.s. the downloaded driver is fo vista so is no use to try th compatibility with xp.

I have bought and installed another graphic card (ATI) which had already at that time (mid September) the native win7 driver.
If Matrox is slow, I'm sorry for them!
I guess anyway now they might have publisched a driver for win7 ....

Someone I talked to this week at Matrox said that they were still 'evaluating' whether to write Windows 7 drivers for what they called "previous-generation products." So I wouldn't hold my breath.

Pity as the P690 is such a solid card - I'd love to get it working in Windows 7.
