    Windows 7 graphic card problem!!

    hello everyone.

i have a MSI notebook with Nvidia Geforce 8400M G.

i recently installed windows 7 proffesional (final version, not RC or beta), and discovered a serious problem: it doesn't recognize my Graphic card. instead it claims i have a "Standard VGA graphic adapter" (in dxdiag, device manager etc.). because of that i cant download any Nvidia drivers, cause the setup always says "Nvidia couldnt find a driver compatible with your hardware". that's, again, because windows 7 does'nt recognize my card.

i tried also uninstalling the VGA adapter from device manager, but after restarting it just installing it again.

is there anything i can do? should i wait for windows updates to come and fix my problem? i really dont want to install windows again. is my card not supported, is my Computer not supported?!

    thanks :)

Are these the drivers you downloaded and attempted to install?

This is an easy one dont worry. check TGS's post for the driver and download it. then attempt to install it. If no win 7 driver is avail (and I dont know if you are 32bit or 64) get the vista driver for your system and run it in compatibility mode.

let us know how it turns out

You may need to force that driver to install. Right click on the 8400 in the device manager, update drivers, but do it manually. then select i will choose the driver, then open up the C:/nvidia/... folder [or where ever you extracted the drivers to] then select the 8400GS driver and then reboot once its installed.

    i solved it thanks everyone

some guy in this forum (i don't remember his name) had the same problem with the same computer, same card and same windows 7 XDD

he posted the solution, consisted of downloading drivers, unpacking them, updating "VGA ADAPTER" manually, choosing "drivers from disk" option, choosing the unpacked folder of Nvidia drivers you've downloaded, pick any of the .inf files and pick your card type. then click next and the update will occure and after a quick restart you'll see your graphic card in DX-Diag and device manager...

    thanks for the help

It also helps to unplug from your internet so windows won't try to instll drivers once you have gotten it to reconize your card.

Hey it seems as though I have the same problem. I've been looking for the thread salonmor mentioned and I haven't been able to find it. I'm going to keep looking, but if anyone could link me to that thread it would be very helpful.
