    1920x1080 Resolution Problems - XP 32bit

Hey sevenforums community :) I am new here so I am sorry if I have post this in the wrong section.

I recently purchased a ViewSonic VA2213W 22" Widescreen Monitor (VGA) which is plugged into my ATI Radeon HD5450 with upto date drivers and Catalyst Control Centre but when I go to change the resolution to 1920x1080 (supported and max resolution), a 2-3 inches thick black strip on the top right monitor going all the way to the bottom, I do not know how to fix this? I have considering installing Windows 7 as a tryout?

Also, when I right click my desktop, Properties -> Display -> Advanced -> Adapter -> List All Modes, 1920x1080 is clearly written infront me (saying it's capable of entering this).

I don't remember what XP will do but Windows 7 with the proper equipment will run 1920-1080 with no problem. A lot has to do with you hardware.

A few things to check...what's your native (recommended) resolution setting. What ever the default setting is, is what it should be set to. You could change your refresh rate form 60 hz to 75 hz and see if that makes a difference. If you are forcing it to go above the default rez, that could be the problem right there.

I don't think VGA supports HD resolution, only DVI and HDMI. I could be wrong.

Open the Catalyst Control Center and check the scaling options,

    and adjust as necessary.

go into the ccc and go to flat panel scaling and after that make your own scalling size save and make sure you check it to do your size everytime thats all you just need to scale it to fill it in
