No video playback only audio (black screen)

    Hey guys.
I recently desc covered that besides VLC on my laptop all the other video player are not able to work properly (meaning,, Windows Media Player 12, Cyberlink PowerDVD12 and WMPC are able to play only the audio, but not the video, just black screen),, BUT with VLC is no problem playing any video format!! The thing is that I didn't have this problem previously,, all my video players were able to play all the same video files, which they can't now!
I have the latest AMD Radeon HD video drivers installed (just after I discovered the problem).
Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks and have a nice day, hope we can resolve this. ))

If it works with vlc tans nothing else, then I doubt it's your video card drivers. However, it may be the codex used by the different players.

Can you just use vlc? Are you having any other graphical issues?

So VLC which uses it's own separate codecs works fine with all extensions, but your other players, ALL extensions/containers play audio only.

It sounds like you've manage to wipe the default codec somehow

Can you go back to restore point where they all worked if not then, Delete VLC and try WMP etc again, if it still fails then you probably need to uninstall all your media players then reinstall fresh. trying to fix codecs is a pain,

smarteyeball !!! Thank you for response.
How could I possible do that ? anyway,, as I recall the only thing I have installed, which contained some codecs, was "Format Factory" . I think Cyberlink PowerDirector too installed some codecs, but I am not sure! This are the things I remember installing,, but I am sure I didn't wipe anything ))

    razy60 !!! Thank you too.
I can not go back to any restore point, because I can not no when was the time I didn't have this problem, because I was peaty much using VLC only (all the time) and just recently I decided to install Cyberlink PowerDVD 12 (in order to enjoy some good quality playback) and there you go, I could hear the sound only, then I started to try other players to, like WMP 12 and MPC (which I think also has and integrated codecs, so if it is then how can VLC work and MPC not?) and regarding fresh installing !! I did install the Power DVD12 fresh, it didn't exist on my laptop previously, plus I even re installed it once too, after installing it 1st time.

Guys thanks a lot for your responses I appreciate it ) do you have any other suggestions for my problem?
    Have a nice day

Guys will not believe what just happened:)) My player are working now!!!!
So what I did is just re installed my ATI Mobile radeon graphic divers and also I upgrade the version of the "Format Factory" (which as I mentioned is installing some codecs,,, but then I read a little about those and apparently this codec are not interfering anyhow with the system and 3rd party codecs at all)...
so I am guessing the the solution was to re install the graphic card driver (which BTW I did 3 time previously, hoping to fix my video playback problem, BUT this time I didn't install the latest package I have from the original website, instead I updated via windows updates,, from Device Manager!)

so this is what worked for me, I don't know how conman can be this problem, but I hope this will help someone else and thank you guys for participating in this thread ))
