Increasing Dedicated Video Memory for Dell Laptop

    Hi there,

I have a Dell Inspiron N5110 15R laptop. It is i3, having 4 GB of RAM and 500 GB of hard-disk. But when it comes to the Graphics, it has onboard graphics, i.e. Intel HD Graphics 3000. Now I have 2GB of shared video memory but I only have 64MB of Dedicated Video Memory which is, I think, not enough to play games like Battlefield 3 or Call of Duty(s).

Now, coming to the question, is there any way I could increase Dedicated Video Memory? I will be happy to donate 1 GB (or 512 MB) more to Dedicated Video Memory.

    Here are my System Specifications;

    CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2350M CPU @ 2.30GHz
    Motherboard: Dell Inc. 034W60
    BIOS: BIOS Date: 03/22/12 18:29:49 Ver: 04.06.04
    Total Memory: 4.00 GB
    usable: 3.91 GB
    HDD: (1) ST500LM012 HN-M500MBB (2) Kingston DT 101 G2 USB Device
Sound Card: (1) IDT High Definition Audio CODEC (2) Intel(R) Display Audio
Graphics Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit 7601 Multiprocessor Free Service Pack 1

    BIOS:

    Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
    Name: BIOS Date: 03/22/12 18:29:49 Ver: 04.06.04
    Version: A10 Release Date: 3/22/2012

    Graphics:

Name/Video Processor: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
    Current Resolution: 1366 x 768 x 32 bits (4294967296 colors) @ 60 Hz
    Video Mode Desc. : 1366 x 768 x 4294967296 colors
Refresh Rate Min: 60 Hz Max: 60 Hz
    Driver Version: 8.15.10.2361
    Driver date: 4/10/2011

I hope you get what I want and please reply on your earliest. Thanks.

Unless there is an option somewhere in the bios to increase it, you're stuck with what it has. Even if you can increase it, it won't help much with games,

The on-line Dell documentation does not say anything about increasing video memory. The documentation does not list the Setup (BIOS). But, check the Setup (F2 at power on) and check as many BIOS' will have the option to increase Video memory in the BIOS.

Well, thank you guys for your kind inputs. Firstly, there is no option related to BIOS for Graphics in System Settings (accessed by pressing F2 on boot screen). Secondly, is there any mod or something like that to do so? I don't know graphics therefore I can't say if my question stands valid.

Dell tends to custom build their systems. Depending on the model and specific build configuration it may not be possibile to change items, such as the video memory.

You could post your question on the Dell users forum, maybe someone there has a definitive answer (yes or no) to your question.
