Dual Monitors - one is recognized as generic non-pnp

Hello and Good Day

I have an issue that has been bothering me for sometime, and I can't seem to find the solution on any forum.

I have dual monitors. One is correctly identified, and the other is called a generic non-PnP monitor. I have updated all the drivers. let me type that again. I have updated all the drivers!!

computer - dell inspiron 570
windows 7 64 bit
graphics card - geforce 520
2 acer p221w monitors
one monitor is connected with a vga cable and the other is dvi
the connections work, i just have messed up resolutions.

I am thinking that it has something to do with the dvi connection. no matter which way i arrange the cables, it is the dvi that gives me the generic. If i try to use the vga slot on the motherboard and a vga slot for the geforce card, one of them does not work in windows.

Any thoughts about this?
thank you
