Laptop connected external monitor, resets resolution each reboot

I recently got an external monitor for my laptop because I've decided that it's gonna be a stay-at-home laptop. And I don't have any money right now for a proper desktop.

It's been great, except that the resolution resets to the laptop's native resolution each time I reboot/boot my laptop. Which is frustrating now. My quick fix at the moment is to open the laptop lid and close it, and magically the resolution sets itself to 1920x1080.

I was wondering if any of you guys knew a permanent fix for this issue?

Thank you and all help will be appreciated!
