ATI Mobility Radeion HD 5870 fan is super loud

    Hey everyone,

Been quite a while since ive been around. Sorry for that. I recently have noticed that my fan speed on my graphics card is EXTREMELY loud. I can not have it in class and it is super loud in the library at school, i need to quite it down. Can anyone help me here?

Here is all my info on the card and some reading to make sure everything is working okay.

    Thanks,
    Ben

    Hi Ben,

It looks like your temperatures are alright (90c is the recommended highest), have you checked if it is any other components of your PC that's causing the loudness?

And have you updated to the latest Catalyst drivers?

Also, if it is really loud, you could slow down the fan speed with AMD Catalyst Control Center. To do so, open Catalyst Control Center and: Click on Performance > AMD OverDrive > Accept Terms > Tick Enable Fan Control and set it to a certain percentage (Beware, this may cause your system to become unstable, so try not to set it under 25% if you are using your PC for gaming.)

    I hope this helped.

It if the card and its components are dirty/dusty it will make the temps rise and automatically kick the fan into a higher gear. Might be time for a cleaning.

I actually don't have this option anywhere in my control center. I am sure that the firmware/software is up to date. I recently got one of those laptop cooling fans to put under your laptop, and it helps somewhat. I also knocked the power plan from high performance to balanced, so we will see if this has any effect as well.

    Thanks everyone,
    Ben
