Windows 7: Need help installing new graphics card driver

My graphics driver doesn't show up in device manager after I uninstalled it. The only thing that shows up under display adapters is Intel(R) HD Graphics.

I just tried to install Nvidia version 306.23 which is supposedly the right driver for the card in my computer according to the Nvidia website. When I restarted my computer I got the same black screen described in my first post. When I did last known good configuration I looked in Programs and Features and it says that version 306.23 is installed on my computer but I don't see it in device manager.

Try opening the Nvidia Control panel and see if your card is identified. For some reason, your card is not being seen by Windows.

Start Orb and type nvidia. You should see NVIDIA Control Panel. Tick on it. Lower left corner tick on system information. What driver does it say you have?
Did you make note of the driver that came with the computer?

You are running on the Intel built in graphics. Let check another way to see if you have any Nvidia drivers installed.
1. Device Manager
2. Display
3. Right click on the drop down (nvidia ???) and select properties.
4. Driver

To help us help you would you please add your systems specs? Here's how: System Info - See Your System Specs
Under System Manufacturer/Model Number add whether it is a desktop or laptop and whether self built.

Log in to Seven Forums and you will be able to transfer the info directly to the specs page in your profile from within the System Info app.
After doing this your specs will be available in each of your posts. Click on mine in the lower left to see how it should look.
Full instructions in the tutorial.

The only thing under display adapters is Intel(R) HD Graphics. The Nvidia GeForce 310m was there until I uninstalled it in attempt to get a new driver working.

Okay that is what I though. You downloaded drivers but they where not installed.
See if this is to your computers liking.

All you have to do is follow the on screen instructions.
-----------------
Here is a little rule of the thumb I go by.
Before replacing any driver or bios wright down in a little book the driver/bio you have and the new one you are installing. Keep notes on the effect you do or do not get with the new ones.
I never replace drivers or bios that are working properly just because their/there are new ones.
-----------------------
Looking at you post #16 your computer is running hot, (cpu-74c,) that I'm assuming is being on the web here. I'm not a lappy person but it seem high to me without a heavy load.
