Dual monitor problem!

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum so sorry if this is in the wrong place. Im having a problem with setting up my computer to run dual monitors. I have one monitor in the vga port and the other in the DVI port(im using a VGA-DVI adapter). The computer is detecting the other monitor but it wont display anything onto the other screen(The screen says "no signal detected"). I have tried the monitor on my brothers laptop and it works perfectly and i dont know why its not working on my desktop. Can anyone give me some advice on how i can fix this issue im having?

You need to access your display settings to state what you want the second monitor to be used for (Extended, Duplicate etc.) Have you done this?
Start > Type "display settings" hit enter > Select the monitor via the drop down box > enter your preferred settings and click "Apply" and "Ok".

Yes i have tried this and it still doesnt work. I can drag programs and documents over to the other screen but i cant see anything(its like the screen is turned off or in sleep mode). By the way im using a BenQ GL2240 22" LED(main monitor, which is working fine,connected to the VGA port) and a BenQ G950 19" LCD(second monitor, this is the one that wont display anything,connected to the DVI port via a VGA-DVI adapter). Im not sure if that really matters or not?

Ive just tried it there and it says "No Signal Detected!", The same message comes up when i press the menu button aswell. The monitor should work because ive tested it as a dual monitor on my laptop and as a single monitor on my desktop instead of the 22" and it works perfectly until i try to use both 22" and 19" set up.

Screen size difference shouldn't be an issue.
A few more things:

- Check that your computer resolution for the second monitor is set correctly (Check in display settings) ie. 1366x768 or 1920x1080 depending on its native resolution.
- Switch the port you are plugging the monitor into (Change the 19" to the port that the 22" one is currently. Have a look to see if the 19" one then works and the 22" one displays a black screen. This can narrow it down a bit.
- Update your graphics card driver.
I'm certainly interested to figure out what this problem is being caused by :/

Right i have checked all the settings and resolutions and they are all set correctly. I have also swapped the screens around, 19" is the 22" was and the 22" is where the 19" was. The 19" is now displaying windows and the 22" isnt displaying anything. Now i come to another issue, i cant update my graphics card driver until next week because i have no internet for it.

What model graphics card are you using? It's possible that is what is causing the problem.

Sometimes it's the refresh rate that needs to be adjusted on the 2nd monitor. Commonly it's set at 60htz, try setting it to 75htz.

I have a sneaky feeling it's the adapter that's the issue here. To verify hook up 2nd monitor with the VGA cable and see it that works.

I have an ATI Radeon 1GB HD 6750.

I have tried to see if it works with a different adapter but it still wouldnt work for me.
