    ATI 4850/Samsung LN32A650 Problem

    Hi,

My computer has a Radeon 4850 hooked up via VGA to Samsung LN32A650

Running Vista Ultimate 32 bit, no problem, TV is detected and native 1920x1080 resolution is supported.

    ATI Catalyst 9.9 is installed.

Running Windows 7 64bit (updated with latest patches) and Catalyst 9.9 64 bit drivers causes a "Mode not Supported" message on bootup.

I can get the Windows 7 to go to 640 x 480 mode sometimes and then change the resolution to 1366 x 768 but no higher.

I have seen other people with similar but not identical symptoms but no clear solution.

    Can anybody help.

If there is a solution already can somebody please point me to the correct thread.

    Thanks.

Have you installed the drivers for your display(s)? Is it showing up in device mngr as the proper display? Sometimes if it shows up as PnP it won't have the proper refresh rates for the native resolution.

There are no drivers for the display. In the display device it is detected as a Samsung TV and the resolution for the unit is :

    1920 x 1080 by 75 Hz.

If I use this information, mode not supported comes up.

I know the display is capable of 1920 x 1080 by 60Hz. So I force that resolution by unchecking the EDID checkbox.

Even then, when windows 7 boots, mode not supported comes up.

    The highest resolution I can achieve is 1366 x 768 @ 60Hz.

In Windows Vista 32 bit, no problem with the same display using the same VGA connection on the same Samsung LN32A650. I achieve 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz with no problems.

    Thanks for the prompt reply.

Your welcome. Have you tried searching threads about forcing edid? I know I have read quite a few about simular problems, yet don't recall ever reading about a solution. Here is a link to a thread Force DVI/HDMI resolutions and refresh rates hope something in here will help. Welcome to sevenforums.Fabe

Thanks. The fundamental question still remains. This HDTV and video combination (works as this is my machine I am using right now) in Vista 32 bit Ultimate, but does not work in Windows 7 64bit.

What is the difference between the 2 sets of ATI drivers. I am using catalyst 9.9 downloaded from ATI for the Radeon 4850.

Hey I am having the same problem you had with the Radeon 4850 and the Samsung TV... But mine is not even showing up the TV in the devices list... When I hook it up along with another monitor it will pick up both, but it shows it as a non-PnP genenric monitor... How did you get the TV to show in you device list?

Also did you solve that problem if so what was your fix?

Have you hooked it up differently to try? I had two 4850`s hooked up to my TV via DVI-HDMI dogle and everything always worked fine. Can u try something besides VGA?

Edit: Saw this was 3-weeks old, and bumped.
OP- did you ever resolve, and how did/didnt you?

currently I am hooked up via vga to my bad monitr (still works but dont wanna use it 15in junk) and the tv is in via component... it works when I set the Catalyst Control Center to say it is a TV, but everything is blue and highest rez setting is 720x576 and 30i refresh...

Even when adjusting the color on the control center, it still stays very very blue. and the settings only make it grainy or blurry...

    Found the solution

This has been very aggravating for me (and others I am sure) for a while now, but I found a solution that seems to be working for people, so I thought I would spread the word. Go to ATI's support site and click the download driver link for your card. Instead of downloading the newest driver for Windows 7, download version 8.9 (the entire package with CCC) and install as normal. This has completely resolved mine and several others' issues. Hope this helps some people out!
