Quality is not the only problem I had with HDMI. The TV not wanting to come out of sleep mode was the other one. I like to know the answer to the quality issue as well as the power management problem.

    Hi,

I have partially fixed the solution of getting my Samsung LN32A650 to work with my Radeon 4850 by using VGA.

This was due to the fact that HDMI did not produce very good quality with my display.

Can anybody point me to a thread or threads which would give a solution of better quality using the HDMI connection with an HDTV?

Thanks for all the help so far.

I have found something that seems to be working for me quite well, not sure if it will solve the power management issues though. I have a DVI to HDMI cable plugged into the 4850 adn the HDMI/DVI2 port on my Samsung LN**A650 series TV. I also installed the new CCC 9.10 (I believe). With this set up I can use the full aspect ratio settings at 1080 even. The image quality is much better than before when I was using the component cables or even the DVI to VGA cables. So far I haven't had any problems with the TV not coming out of sleep mode. I tend not to put my computer in sleep mode, but the other day while watching a movie it was idle long enough that it did so, I just moved my mouse a bit and a second later the TV was displaying the Computer screen again. Hope this works for you all!

    Cheers

I will try this. Thanks. Can you confirm that you are using a generic DVI - HDMI cable ie, a one with a DVI/D connector rather than a DVI/I connector, and that you are not using the ATI DVI/HDMI converter that came with the card.

    Hi,

As suggested,I downloaded and installed 9.10 version of CCC. Using the HDMI2/DVI input on the Samsung LN32A650, I got better video quality via HDMI. Mode not supported on the VGA input as indicated by others.

However, in comparison, VGA is still better:

Less color bleed through and less sharpness. Although if you did not compare the 2 the HDMI is acceptable if you do not do a lot of text work with small fonts.

Still looking for a solution on how to achieve good quality HDMI video.
